Original codices, leaves, and illuminations—curated for collectors and institutions worldwide.

Stephen Butler curates manuscripts of the medieval and Renaissance periods with an emphasis on quality, rarity, and cultural significance.

The collection ranges from complete codices to single leaves, illuminated miniatures, and decorated cuttings—artifacts that reveal the hand, tools, and materials of their makers: vellum, iron-gall ink, shell gold, lapis lazuli, and vermilion.

Highlights include manuscripts in humanist and Gothic scripts, Books of Hours, and devotional or scholarly texts produced across Europe.

Each item is catalogued with precision, noting provenance, condition, and dating. All manuscripts are original, and we never break leaves out of books or codices. Visitors may browse by period—from pre-12th century through the 14th–16th centuries—or by format, including codices, leaves, illuminations, and miniatures.

New acquisitions are added regularly, and availability is subject to change.
