Quarto. 19cm x 15cm. [18],607, [5]pp. Typographic title present but lacks the engraved frontis and engraved title pages, otherwise complete. Mainly good to very good, with some marks. Mmm3 with small textual loss cutting into lower 5 lines. Final 20 or so pages are browned. Full original C17th lether boards recently rebacked over raised bands and attractive period style label.

Richard Baxter (1615–1691) was one of the most influential theologians and pastors of seventeenth-century England and a leading figure among the moderate Puritans. Largely self-educated, he became minister of Kidderminster in 1641, where his rigorous preaching and pastoral care transformed the town and earned him lasting fame. During the Civil War he served as chaplain to the Parliamentary army but consistently opposed extremism. Ejected in 1662 under the Act of Uniformity, he continued to write and preach as a Nonconformist, enduring repeated persecution. Prolific and deeply practical, Baxter authored over 130 works, including The Saints’ Everlasting Rest and The Reformed Pastor, shaping English devotional life for generations.
